Urethra stones (plugs) are primarily seen in neutered males. Most of the urethral plugs develop in Alkaline Urine (high pH). They are called struvites (magnesium ammonium phosphates or triple phosphate). On some occasions urethral plugs are formed in Acidic Urine (low pH). These plugs are called calcium oxalates. The urethra is the tube carrying urine from the bladder to the outside. When accumulation of mineral crystals (stones) occurs, the urethra is plugged. If not treated quickly, urethral blockage may become a potentially fatal disease. Typical symptoms of urethra stones: KittyCheck™ 1 KittyCheck™ 2 Infection and Stones Monitor and KittyCheck™ 3 Diet Imbalance Monitor alert you when your cat's urine has high pH (alkaline urine) or low pH (high acidity urine).
