Frequently Asked KittyCheckQuestions

Q        What does a color change of KittyCheck™ indicate?

A       Depending on the type of the KittyCheck packet used for the given week:

       *    KittyCheck  1 - Blue color = indicates presence of blood in cat's  urine

       *    KittyCheck  2 Blue-purple color = your cat's urine is alkaline  - your cat may have urinary infection and stones

       *    KittyCheck 3Pink-red color = your cat's urine is highly acidic - your cat may have dietary imbalance

            *    KittyCheck 4Magenta color = indicates presence of glucose in your cat's urine  - your cat may have "sugar diabetes"

Color other than the color on the respective color chart in the Procedure section should be disregarded.  Color change with KittyCheckalong with certain behaviors (such as excessive licking of genital areas, frequent trips to litter box, lethargy, excessive thirst, weight changes, depression, straining to urinate, and crying when urinating) may indicate a potential disorder that might require attention of your veterinarian.

Q         Should I take my cat to a veterinarian if I see a color change with KittyCheck?

A       Not necessarily.  If your cat is already on a special diet or treatment regimen, KittyCheck will help you monitor your cat's condition.  If you are unsure of your cat's condition, it is always advisable to consult a licensed veterinarian.

Q      Can I use more than one KittyCheck packet with the same litter?

A        No. Each of the KittyCheck tests (packets) should be used separately with fresh litter.  Combining the KittyCheck tests will give you  inaccurate results.

Q         Is KittyChecksafe for my cat's paws?

A        KittyCheck is scientifically designed and formulated to ensure the safety of both your pet and you.

Q         How often should I use KittyCheck?

A        As with any proactive testing, KittyCheckshould be used on a regular basis, even when your cat does not show any signs of disease.

Q         What should I do if I have more than one cat?

A         The best solution is to isolate the cat-in-question, unless you can observe your cat urinating in the shared litter box and check KittyCheck test pieces immediately for color change.  To reduce the stress of your cat, limit the isolation to the times when the cat typically uses the litter box: after feeding and drinking.  You can also use your cat's litter box habits for more convenient monitoring.

Q      Can KittyCheck be left in the litter box for longer than seven days?

A         No. The accuracy of the test will decrease after seven days.  If you are not sure in the outcome, repeat the test if necessary.

Q      What litter should I use with KittyCheck?

A      KittyCheck can be used with most brands of cat litters.  Cat litter containing baking soda should not be used, as it interferes with the test outcome.
